Saul told Jonathan and all his servants to kill David.

But Jonathan took great delight in David, and so he said to him, 'My father seeks to kill you, so stay in a secret place and hide yourself. I will speak to him and if I find out anything I will tell you.'
So Jonathan spoke highly of David to his father Saul, saying, 'David has not sinned against you, but has greatly benefited you. He risked his life to kill the Philistine and you were happy about it. Why would you kill an innocent man like David for no reason?'
Saul heeded the words of Jonathan and promised, 'As Yahweh lives, he will not be killed.'

So Jonathan summoned David and brought him before Saul. And David served Saul as before.

Then an evil spirit from Yahweh came upon Saul while he was sitting in his house with a spear in his hand and David was playing the lyre.

Saul tried to pin David to the wall with the spear, but David escaped and the spear stuck into the wall.

So Saul sent men to watch David's house and kill him in the morning.

But David's wife Michal told him, 'If you do not save yourself tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.'

And Michal let David down through a window, and he escaped, fleeing.

Michal took an idol and put it on the bed, with a covering of goat's hair over its head.

When Saul sent men to arrest David, Michal told them 'He is ill.'

Then Saul sent the men back to David, saying, 'Bring him to me on his bed so I can kill him!'

But when the men arrived, they saw the idol and the goat's hair at its head.

Saul asked Michal, 'Why did you deceive me and let my enemy escape?' and she replied, 'He said to me, "Help me escape or I'll kill you!"'
