Baasha angered Yahweh because he had become like Jeroboam's family and because he had destroyed Jeroboam's family. And the word of Yahweh came through Jehu the prophet: '"I am about to annihilate Baasha and his family, and make your family like Jeroboam's family."'

Then Baasha died and his son Elah succeeded him as king. Elah reigned over Israel for two years in Tizrah.

One of his servants Zimri, who was the commander of half his chariots, plotted against him. It happened that Elah was getting drunk at the house of Azra who was in charge of the palace.
And Zimri came in and struck him down, killing him.
