Solomon gave orders to build a temple to honor Yahweh, and for a palace for himself.
Solomon took a census of all the foreigners living in Israel, like <a href="../../king_david/god_kills_70000_israelites/2s24_01p1ch21_01.html">the census his father David had taken</a>.
There were found to be 153,600 foreigners. Solomon made 80,000 of them stone cutters in the hills.
He made 70,000 of them burden bearers.
And made 3,600 of them overseers to compel the people to work.
In the fourth year of Solomon's reign the foundation was laid for the Temple of Yahweh in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. It was 90 feet long and 30 feet wide.
It took seven years to build. Only finished stones were used. The sound of hammers, chisels, and other iron tools were not heard at the temple during construction.
In front of the temple, Solomon made two bronze pillars, each 27 feet tall. The pillars were set up on the porch in front of the main hall. The one on the right he named Jakin, and the one on the left he named Boaz.
The capitals atop the pillars were of lily-work and six feet tall, having 200 pomegranates set in rows.

And he made the bronze sea. It was seven and a half feet tall and 45 feet around. It stood atop twelve bulls, three facing north, three west, three south, and three east. It could hold 18,000 gallons.
He overlaid the main hall with gold and decorated the temple with precious stones. On all the walls of the Temple he engraved carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and flowers.
Solomon prepared a Holy of Holies within the temple to house the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. He overlaid the inside with pure gold. He made two cherubim whose wings spread out so that they touched both walls and touched each other in the middle of the room.
When Solomon had finished constructing the Temple of Yahweh, he put the silver, gold, and all the other items his father David had dedicated into the treasuries of God’s temple.
