At Gibeon, Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream and said, 'Ask me for whatever you want me to give to you.'

Solomon said, 'Your chosen people are a great nation, too numerous to count, and I am young and inexperienced. So give your servant a discerning heart to know right from wrong.'
This pleased Yahweh, and God said to him, 'Because you have not asked for long life or riches, or for the life of your enemies, indeed, I give you a wise and discerning heart, superior to anyone who has lived before you or to anyone who will live after you.'
'I also give you what you have not asked for, both riches and honor all your life such that no other king shall compare with you.'
