Then Adonijah went to visit Solomon's mother Bathsheba. She asked him, 'Do you come in peace?' He replied, 'In peace.'

Adonijah said, 'Please ask King Solomon, for he will not refuse you, to give me Abishag as my wife.'

Bathsheba replied, 'Very well, I will speak to the king on your behalf.'

So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him on Adonijah's behalf, and said, 'I have a small request to ask of you, and please do not refuse me.'
The king said to her, 'Ask me, mother, and I will not refuse you.'

She said, 'Let Abishag be given to your brother Adonijah as a wife.'

King Solomon said to his mother, 'Why only ask for Abishag to be given to my older brother? Why not just ask for the kingdom to be given to him and to Abiathar and Joab?'

Then King Solomon swore by Yahweh, 'May God curse me and worse if Adonijah does not pay for this request with his life! As sure as Yahweh lives, Adonijah will be killed today!'
And King Solomon sent out Benaiah, and he struck down Adonijah.
