And David's son Amnon fell in love with her.
2 of 20 2 Samuel 13:2
Amnon became tormented to the point of illness over his sister, for she was a virgin and so it was not an option to do anything to her.
Amnon had a friend named Jonadab who was a very shrewd man. He asked Amnon, 'Why does the king's son look so haggard morning after morning? Won't you tell me?'

Amnon said to him, 'I am in love with Tamar, the sister of my brother Absalom.'

Jonadab said to him, 'Lie in bed and pretend to be ill. When your father comes to you, say, "Let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat, preparing the food in my sight, so that I may see it and eat it from her hand."'

But as she was offering the food to him, Amnon grabbed her and said to her, 'Come, have sex with me, my sister!'

Tamar said to him, 'No, my brother! Do not rape me, for such is not done in Israel! Speak to the king and he will not withhold me from you!'

But Amnon would not listen to her. And he raped her.

Then Amnon hated her. He hated her even more than he had been in love with her. He said to her, 'Get up and go!'

Tamar said, 'No, my brother! Sending me away would be even worse than what you've done to me!'
14 of 20 2 Samuel 13:16
Amnon called to his personal servant, saying, 'Take her out of here, and lock the door behind her!'
15 of 20 2 Samuel 13:17
So his servant took her outside, and Tamar went away wailing with her hands on her head.
Her brother Absalom said to her, 'Did Amnon your brother have sex with you? Be quiet, my sister. He is your brother. Don't dwell on this matter.'

But Tamar was inconsolable and remained at Absalom's house.

When King David heard about all of these things, he was very angry.

But he did not punish his son Amnon, because he loved him, for he was his firstborn.
