David gathered 30,000 select men from Israel, and they traveled with him to Baalah in Judah to retrieve the ark of God.
1 of 10 2 Samuel 6:1
The ark bears the name of Yahweh Sabaoth, who sits enthroned between the cherubim. They loaded it onto a new cart.
2 of 10 2 Samuel 6:2
And they carried it from the house of Abinadab on the hill. Abinadab's sons Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart.
3 of 10 2 Samuel 6:3
And David and all Israel were enthusiastically celebrating, singing, and playing zithers, tambourines, rattles, and cymbals.
When they came to the threshing floor at Nacon, the oxen stumbled, so Uzzah reached out and steadied the ark of God.
5 of 10 2 Samuel 6:6
The anger of Yahweh blazed against Uzzah, and he killed him for having touched the ark.
He died right there before God.
David was angry because Yahweh attacked Uzzah, and he called that place Outburst Against Uzzah. And that remains its name to this day.
So David did not move the ark to the City of David. He left it at the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
So David was happy to bring the ark from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David. The men carrying the ark had taken 6 steps when David sacrificed an ox and a fat calf.
