Samuel summoned the people at Mizpah and said to them, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Today you have rejected your God and said 'Appoint a king to lead us.' Now take your positions before Yahweh by tribe and clan. '

Then he had the clans of Benjamin come forward and the lot indicated the clan of Matri.

Finally the lot indicated Saul son of Kish.

But when they looked for Saul, he was nowhere to be found. So they asked Yahweh, 'Has the man arrived here yet?'

And Yahweh said, 'Look, he has hidden himself among the baggage.'

So they ran over and pulled him out.

He stood head and shoulders taller than anyone else, and Samuel said to the people, 'See the one Yahweh has chosen? There is none like him among all the people!'
