The Israelites felt sorry for what happened to the Benjaminites and said, 'How shall we find wives for those who are left? We cannot give them our own daughters, for the Israelites took an oath saying, Anyone who gives a wife to the Benjaminites will be cursed! '
'However,' they said, 'there is an annual festival to Yahweh in Shiloh, north of Bethel.'

So they commanded the Benjaminites, 'Hide in the vineyards, and when you see girls of Shiloh coming out to dance, come out and each of you seize yourself a wife.'
'If their fathers and brothers complain to us, we will tell them, You are innocent since you did not voluntarily give them your daughters as wives. '
