Samson went down to Timnah where he noticed a woman, one of the Philistine girls.

He returned home and told his father and mother, 'I noticed a Philistine girl at Timnah. Now go get her to be my wife.'

His father and mother replied, 'Is there no woman from among your relatives or all our people that you would go and take a wife from these uncircumcised Philistines?'

But Samson said to his father, 'Get her for me. She looks pleasing to me.' Samson's father and mother did not realize that this was Yahweh's doing. Yahweh was seeking an opportunity to act against the Philistines who were ruling over Israel.

Samson headed down to Timnah, but as he approached the vineyards, he saw a roaring young lion coming at him.

Yahweh's spirit seized him, and he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as easily as if it were a young goat.

Samson did not tell his father or mother what he had done, but continued on to Timnah and talked with the girl, and found her pleasing.

Later Samson was on his way back to marry her when he turned to look at the lion's carcass, and in it was a swarm of bees and some honey.

He scooped out some honey, and when he returned to his parents, he gave some to them and they ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion's carcass.

Samson's father went down to the woman, and Samson threw a feast there, as was the custom for bridegrooms.
