Jephthah returned home to Mizpah, and there was his daughter coming out to meet him, dancing to the sound of tambourines.

She was his only child, for he had no other sons or daughters. When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, 'Oh, my daughter, you have made me miserable, and cause me great trouble.'
'I have made a vow to Yahweh and cannot break it.'

She said to him, 'Do to me as you promised, but grant me one request: give me two months to roam the hills with my friends and bewail my virginity.'
So Jephthah sent her away for two months, and she roamed the hills with her friends and bewailed her virginity.

After two months she returned to her father, and he did to her according to his vow.
