The prophetess Deborah was judge of Israel at the time. She would sit under the Palm of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel, and the Israelites came to her to have their disputes settled.

Deborah summoned Barak of Naphtali, and said to him, 'Yahweh commands you: Take ten thousand men from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun to Mount Tabor. I will lure Sisera, the general of Jabin's army, with his chariots and army and give him into your hands. '

Barak said to her, 'If you go with me, I will go. But if you do not go with me, I will not go.'

Deborah said, 'Yes, I will go with you. But the way you are going about this, you will not win glory. Yahweh will give Sisera into the hands of a woman.'

Barak summoned men from Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men followed him, and Deborah went with him.

When Sisera was told that Barak was encamped at Mount Tabor, he summoned his nine hundred iron chariots and all his troops.

Barak charged down Mount Tabor with his ten thousand men, and Yahweh routed Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword.

Sisera leapt from his chariot and fled on foot.
