He sent messages to King Jobab of Madon, the kings of Shimron and Achshaph, the kings of the northern hill country and of the Jordan River valley, the kings of the foothills and of Naphath-Dor, the Canaanite kings of the east and the west, the Amorite, Hittite, Perizzite, and Jebusite kings of the hill country, and the Hivite kings in the region of Mizpah.
2 of 13 Joshua 11:1–3
These kings came out with all their troops and a large number of horses and chariots--a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore. All these kings joined forces, prepared to fight against Israel.
3 of 13 Joshua 11:4–5
Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid of them. By this time tomorrow I will cause all of them to lie dead before Israel. You must hamstring their horses and burn their chariots.'

So Joshua and his whole army took them by surprise, attacking them at the Waters of Merom.
5 of 13 Joshua 11:7
Yahweh put them at Israel's mercy and they struck them down and chased them all the way to Greater Sidon, Misrephoth Maim, and the Mizpah Valley to the east.

They struck them down until not one of them was left alive.

As Yahweh had commanded, Joshua hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.

Joshua then turned back and captured Hazor, putting its king to the sword.

In accordance with the curse of destruction, everyone who lived there was put to the sword, not sparing anything that breathed.

And he burned Hazor to the ground. Hazor had been the capital of all these kingdoms.

But Israel did not burn any of the cities built on mounds besides Hazor. The Israelites plundered all the loot of these cities and their cattle.
But they utterly destroyed all the human beings, not sparing a single soul.
