Yahweh then said to Moses: Take Joshua son of Nun, a man of spirit, and lay your hands on him. Invest him with some of your authority so that the entire Israelite community will obey him.

Moses did as Yahweh ordered. He took Joshua, brought him before Eleazar the priest and the whole community, laid his hands on him, and gave him his orders.

Moses then pleaded with Yahweh: My lord Yahweh, may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan — that fine upland country and the Lebanon?
