Miriam and Aaron began to criticize Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married.

Moses had indeed married a Cushite woman.

They said, 'Is Moses the only one through whom Yahweh has spoken? Has he not spoken through us as well?'
3 of 10 Numbers 12:2
Yahweh heard this and suddenly said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, 'Come out, all three of you!'
Yahweh said, 'To Moses my whole household is entrusted. To him I speak face to face, plainly and not in riddles. How can you not be afraid to criticize Moses?'
Yahweh's anger was aroused and he left them. When the cloud departed, there was Miriam covered in a virulent skin disease, white as snow.

Aaron saw that she was covered with a virulent skin disease and said to Moses, 'Please do not punish us! Do not let Miriam be like a stillborn child who comes out of the womb with half its flesh rotted away!'
Moses pleaded with Yahweh, saying, 'O God, I beg you, please heal her!'

Yahweh said to Moses, 'Have her shut out of the camp for seven days, and then have her brought in again.
