When Abram was 99 years old, Yahweh appeared to him and said, "No longer will your name be Abram, but ‘Abraham’, for you will be the ancestor of many nations. I will establish my never-ending pact with you and your descendants."

"For your part, you must cut off the flesh of your foreskins. Throughout the generations, every male among you must be circumcised once he is 8 days old, including slaves born in your house and any people purchased with money."

And Yahweh said to Abraham, "As for your wife, you shall no longer call her Sarai. Her name shall be Sarah. I will give you a son by her, and you will name him Isaac."

Abraham fell on his face and laughed, thinking, "Can a son be born to a man who is 100? Can Sarah give birth to a child at 90?" And God said, "As for Ishmael, I will make him into a large nation, but I will establish my pact with Isaac who Sarah will give birth to at this time next year."
