God performed such extraordinary miracles through Paul that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched him were brought to the sick, and the evil spirits went out of them.

Some traveling Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name of Lord Jesus over people possessed with demons, saying, 'I command you by Jesus who is preached by Paul!' There were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish high priest, who were doing this.

And the evil spirit answered them, 'I know of Jesus, and I've heard of Paul, but who are you?'

Then the man with the evil spirit jumped at them.

And he overpowered them one by one.

He beat them so badly they came running out of the house naked and badly wounded.

Many believers then came forward and a large number who had practiced magic collected their books and burnt them up in public.

The value of the books was about 50,000 silver pieces. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.
